Papillary Carcinoma
CANCER.
My Mister had it. Key word? HAD. Thank God.
3-ish weeks ago, my mister went to the doctor for his physical. His doctor noticed a nodule on his thyroid, so he ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that the nodule was larger than they like to see, so the good doctor ordered a biopsy. :::sidenote::: the not-so-good doctor doing the biopsy thought it was unnecessary. Thankfully my mister pushed for the biopsy, because it came back suspicious. Surgery to remove his thyroid was recommended, and that took place last week. The pathology report came back today. Pappilary Carcinoma. Cancer. Holy Shit.
Y’all. I was expecting this outcome. I thought I was ready for it. Thyroid cancer is easily treatable and has an extremely high recovery rate. We’ve done the hard part already. But hearing that it was cancer hit me hard. Cancer is a scary word. However, we are soooooo lucky. While cancer is not something you want to get ever, if you have to get cancer, thyroid is a good one to get. It’s treatable without chemo. It’s easy to catch early. It’s easy to remove. It’s just Cancer, y’all. Cancer. After all we’ve been through–now this. Just another test for us to get through.
Maybe I’m over reacting. My mister? He’s fine. Everyone says this is good news. Good news that they got it all? Yes. Cancer? Sorry, no. It’s going to take me a few days to process this. But I had to get my feelings out now.
I know this is rambling. Sorry. My mind is all over the place tonight.
And Twitter friends, turned real life friends are awesome for taking your minds off things. Thank God for spin class and the conversations it starts! Thanks you all!! Love you!

I'm so sorry you got this scary news, but SO glad it's fixed. Randomly I never watch Dr Oz, but he was on just before the news about a month ago and had a segment on this talking about what a huge rise there was in thyroid cancer and how easily treatable it is.

Thanks everyone! I'm feeling better about it now. We have a treatment plan in place, and it's very managable. I feel like we dodged a huge bullet. And I can't tell you how much your thoughts mean to me. You're all wonderful.

Hey! Good to meet you today. Told you I didn't get a chance to check out everyone's blogs. My ex boyfriend's sister also had thyroid cancer too and that was 10 years ago and she's doing amazing. Very treatable.
I'll continue to say prayers for him and you both. Maybe we can meet up again.
xoxo,
Dee
